Long time GDI Southeast student and coach Jacob Caffrey won the UCHC Division 3 college hockey Goalie of the Year award while at Stevenson University. The team’s goalie coach is GDI Southeast Regional Manager Jay Chrapala. Congratulations to both men!
Jacob has trained with us since 2008 and has developed into a fine goaltender over the years. Upon graduation from Stevenson, Jacob played in two professional hockey games with two SPHL teams. Commonly a senior will leave school temporarily after his season to pursue pro and “get the feet wet” in hopes of making an early impression on a squad for the following year. Jacob was so well liked by the coaches on each team that they rewarded him with a game before his return home. In his two games played for Roanoke and Pensacola he posted a 2.26 GGA and .933 SA%, certainly making a wonderful first impression on pro scouts.
1994 born Caffrey previously played for the Washington Little Caps and Jersey Hitmen (both goalie coached by Ryan Honick) before earning a spot at AHA Division 1 AIC (American International College), then transferring to Stevenson for his Junior and Senior seasons. We use Jacob at our GDI Southeast camps and this summer he will help us as a Group Leader and mentor at the 2018 NDC: EAST at Providence College. Jacob is a fitness and yoga fanatic, in adition to working as a LifeGuard in Delaware during recent summers. Best of luck on your journey Caff!
