The emphasis of the GDI1 progression is to build a strong technical foundation securing each of the three primary fundamental skill groups. These skill groups include: position specific movement, basic positioning and a goalie’s initial save assets. Strength in these critical areas will ensure expedited growth due to the strength of the fundamental base. Each on-ice session will have a strong focus on a goalie’s movement game. Strong movement leads to greater positional efficiency, which, in turn, leads to more controlled and consistent save responses. A further impact of this fundamental focus is the increase in confidence that the younger/ beginner-level goaltender receives from growth in these areas. While movement is the focus, the goalie will build strong basic positioning and the ability to execute key save moves.
